Lenny Rachitsky is known for the product world's required reading. The ex-Airbnb product lead turned a newsletter side project into the fifth biggest Substack on earth, with over 1 million subscribers and a podcast where the people running ChatGPT, Instagram, and Netflix explain how they actually build. What they do well
- Turns one podcast into a week of posts. 55% of his feed (110 of 200 posts) is built from podcast and summit guests: a quote clip, then the episode drop, then a takeaways list. One recording becomes five or six posts, each strong enough to stand alone.
- Owns a signature format. "My biggest takeaways from..." numbered lists are just 14% of his feed but 13 of his top 50 posts (26%), averaging 1,070 engagement against his 712 overall. Readers know exactly what they're getting before the fold.
- Hooks with names, not numbers. Only 3 of his top 50 hooks (6%) open with a figure. He opens with borrowed authority instead: "Marty Cagan," "Netflix's CPTO," "Head of ChatGPT." The title is the hook, and the quote does the rest.
- Shows up almost 8 times a week. 7.9 posts a week for six months straight, and the quality gap holds: his top posts average 1,843 engagement vs 335 for the rest, a 5.5x multiplier he feeds by always having something new to point at.
